Meeting with International Donor Organizations

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili met with the representatives of international donor organizations.

The representatives of international organizations: United Nations Development Program, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Asian Development Bank (ADB), German Reconstruction Bank (GRB), World Bank (WB), Millennium Challenge Corporation/Millennium Challenge Georgia (MCC/MCG), and the guests from diplomatic corps attended the meeting.

The heads of sub-offices of the ministry introduced the results of the activities implemented during 2011. Besides it, the presentation about the activities of the Ministry realized during 2011 and the projects which will be realized in 2012 was introduced at the meeting.

 Participants of the meeting discussed the new infrastructure projects, as well as the projects planned in the fields of road and water-supply rehabilitation.

Ramaz Nikolaishvili thanked guests for the support provided by donor agencies over the years, both in terms of regional development, as well as in the process of local government reform.

Representatives of international donor organizations have positively evaluated the activities carried out by the Ministry during the year 2011 and expressed satisfaction with the fact that they had an opportunity to hear the details about plans for future cooperation personally from the Minister.

 

Population of Akhmeta will be supplied with water without interruptions in 2012

Majority Deputy of the region of Akhmeta, Petre Tsiskarishvili visited region of Rioni with the representatives of local municipality and affiliate manager of United Water Supply Company of Georgia, Farnaoz Makashvili.

Petre Tsiskarishvili and representative of United Water Supply Company of Georgia held meeting in the Sabero and Satiano districts and went through the problems of the population of Akhmeta.

Whole metering of the Akhmaeta region is planned during the current year by the company. Also changing damaged pieces of sewerage collectors is planned.

For now, 90% of population in Akhmeta is currently supplied with water for 8-10 hours a day and 10% have a 24 hour schedule. By the end of the year, 100% of the population will be supplied with water without interruptions.

 

Major works in 14 cities and villages of Georgia

Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure and the companies, which won the tender, signed the new contract.

According to the cooperation between the ministry and the companies, water supply improvement in 14 cities and villages of Georgia is planned.

Signing ceremony took place at “Holyday Inn”. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ramaz Nikolaishvili, opened the event. Ceremony was attended by the Director of the Municipal Development Fund, Levan Chichinadze, Director of United Water Supply Company of Georgia,  Irakli Kvashilava, Governors of the regions of Georgia, heads of Municipalities and representatives of the European Investment Bank.

According to the project,  water supply system rehabilitation works will be executed  in Ozurgeti, Lanchkhuti, Tkibuli, Zestafoni, Lentekhi, Martvili, Tsageri, Vani, Tskaltubo, Tsalenjikha, Surami, Sartichala, Omalo and Lagodekhi.  5000 people will be employeed during the rehabilitation works.  This project is a part of the plan of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, according to which, at the end of the year all of the municipalities of Georgia will switch to daily water supply.

Within the project, water pipes in these cities will be replaced,  existing reservoirs and head waters will be rehabilitated. Georgian companies: "Beldinvest", "Mshenebeli-80", "Tsekuri", "Archaeopolis", "INS", "Service", "Sani", "Spetshidromsheni" and "Tsqalkanalmsheni" will execute the works.

 

Students of Technical University at the main water building in Bakuriani

United Water Supply Company of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia showed Water Treatment Facility in Bakuriani to the students of Technical University.

During the contest announced by the company, students will also be able to view main water building and reservoirs in different regions, observe water supply process, get to know existing problems and will work on ways of solving them with qualified specialists.

According to the director of United water Supply Company of Georgia, Irakli Kvashilava, after a one month contest three winners will become interns at the training center of the company and will be employed afterwards.

 

Contest for the improvement of Water Supply Infrastructure

 The United Water Supply Company of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia continues cooperation with the Water Supply Faculty of the Technical University.

According to company’s new initiative, a contest for the students has been announced on these topics:

1.      Water Supply improvement on the filter of Sharkhevi River in Dusheti.

2.      Technological improvement of main water building and water treatment facility and improvement of the quality of potable water in Bagdati.

3.      Methodology of water wastage extermination in Bolnisi.

 

During the contest, students will be able to visit mentioned places and get to know working process of the company, local water supply systems, existing problems and ways for solving them. They will be consulted by the projecting department of the company.

The jury composed of highly competent specialists will reveal three winners. These three students will be awarded with yearly grants and payment of their tuition fee.

The winners of the contest will also become interns at the training center of the company and as a result will be employed at United Water Supply Company of Georgia.

 

Emergency Regime
February 8, 2012

 

Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure and United Water Supply Company of Georgia are working in an emergency regime because of the bad weather conditions. Technical departments of all regional branches are  in control of situation for 24 hours a day, for the population of regions to be supplied with potable water without interruptions.

Tap water froze in several customers houses in Kakheti. Despite not being responsible for fixing individual water networks, company’s technical groups still provide help to customers. No problems have been detected on the main water building yet.

United Water Supply Company of Georgia asks customers to alert local service centers in case of water supply problems, for them to be sorted out quickly.

 

 

High quality water for the population of Poti

United Water Supply Company of Georgia of Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure held discussions on the project of environmental influence of investment program in Poti.

The aim of the project is construction of water treatment facilities of sewerage systems and main sewerage collector. Together with company’s representatives, local residents and representatives of Poti city hall attended discussions.

Project is financed by Asian Development Bank and is executed by United Water Supply Company of Georgia. Water treatment facilities of sewerage system will be projected according to German standards (DWA).

After its completion population of Poti will be supplied with high quality potable water without interruptions and also clearing of sewerage will take place.

 

Informational centers of the company in the regions
January 25, 2012

 

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ramaz Nikolaishvili and Director of United Water Supply Company of Georgia, Irakli Kvashilava opened the new service centers of the company and the rehabilitated square in Kutaisi.

Mentioned center will serve customers and give them ability to get any kind of information about the condition of water supply systems in Kutaisi easily. Director of United Water Supply Company of Georgia, Irakli Kvashilava  also introduced one more informational center to the Minister, which is located in Avtokarkhana settlement and which has the exact same functions as the central service center.

According to the statement of Irakli Kvashilava, such service centers will be opened in different regions across the country. This will facilitate communication process between the company and population.  Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ramaz Nikolaishili checked the quality of the service of the new center personally. On the territory of the branch in Kutaisi, square of modern standards has also been set up for the customers to wait their queue in a comfortable environment.

 

 

Discussions on future plans
January 23, 2012

Today, managers of regions and service centers of United Water Supply Company of Georgia met with the director of the company, Irakli Kvashilava and First Deputy Minister of Regional Devalopment and Infrastructure, Jambul Bakuradze.

During the meeting current problems, ways of solving them and future plans were discussed. More specifically, talks were held about projects planned in 2012, like installment of electronic documents rotation and new technologies, construction of public toilets. Director of the company emphasized planned construction-rehabilitation works, which will improve water supply in regions significantly.

 

New device for the improvement of water quality

United Water Supply Company of Georgia has purchased a granular metric device on 11th of January, 2012. It enables determining quantity and size of water inclusive particles.

Mentioned device will help the company in choosing exact sizes for water treatment plant filter and settler, which, in turn, will play role in perfecting projecting process and will significantly increase quality of potable water supplied to customers.
